Meet Joey

I’m a proud lifelong Floridian from a working class background, and recently moved to Hillsborough County, spending close to a decade living and working for small businesses in Miami-Dade and Pasco before that. I grew up in Jupiter, Palm Beach County, including playing quarter back at my PBC high school. My mom, Erika, and her husband, Gary, live in Loxahatchee, close to where I grew up. She's a real estate agent and firearms specialist and trainer, while Gary is a veteran and retired law enforcement. I have three older step siblings and a younger sister in Marion County, and two adopted shelter dogs - Maria and Eleanor. I earned a political science degree cum laude from Florida Atlantic University, and then my J.D. and Certificate of International Law at the University of Toledo College of Law in Ohio, followed by a Masters in Economic Development at the Milano School of Policy, Management and Environment. My breadth of experience covers the legal, nonprofit, public and private sectors, including policy work with the UN’s Global Compact, the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative. As a trial attorney my legal practice has focused on representing Florida families all over the state in civil litigation, taking on powerful special interests on behalf of everyday Floridians who can't afford to. I also help up-and-coming athletes to negotiate contracts to help them pursue the American Dream, from college football players to combat sports fighters. Some of my proudest work includes providing legal aid to farmworkers and DACA kids. My longtime home county of Miami-Dade includes Homestead, a major agricultural area, and covers a significant portion of the Eastern Everglades. Homestead is one of the very few regions in the country capable of growing and harvesting winter vegetables and tropical fruits when much of the country is frozen.
